Dear Sustainable Sachi:
Knowing of your interest in legislation affecting the distribution of raw milk, specifically H.R. 1830, I would like to take the opportunity to update you on this legislation.

As you know, H.R. 1830 was introduced by Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) on May 11, 2011.  The legislation would prohibit any federal department, agency, or court from taking any action to restrict the interstate traffic of milk that is unpasteurized and packaged for direct human consumption.  H.R. 1830 has been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is awaiting further action.

Like you, I agree consumers should be able to purchase milk and milk products that they feel are best suited for themselves and their family.  While I am not a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I do look forward to reviewing the committee’s findings on H.R. 1830.  Please know that your correspondence is important to me and that I appreciate your views. Should legislation concerning interstate distribution of milk come to the House floor for a vote, I will consider it with your thoughts in mind.

Thank you for contacting me. As Congress debates solutions to the challenges facing our nation, I hope you will continue to share your thoughts and views with me.
